YOUNGSTERS were ‘Going For Gold’ on Saturday when 200 members of Girlguiding UK celebrated the Olympics with a day of sport and craft.
District members of Rainbows, Brownies and Guides, as well as senior members and leaders, met at Leeds & Broomfield Primary School to take part in games of football, hockey, dancing and craft activities at the Going for Gold Olympic Celebrations.
The Lower Street school donated its facilities free of charge for the event, and organisers were helped by volunteers from local accountancy firm Day, Smith & Hunter and Gullands Solicitors which also donated £200 towards badges.
Jacquie Beadle, Guiding Leader from 1st Vinters Rainbows and one of four organisers, said: "It was a chance for the girls to see that they’re part of a huge organisation. They can go to an event and see all their peers and gain a sense of how big Girlguiding UK is."
