The future of a grade II listed building in the town centre could change after plans were submitted to the council.

If approved, a 19th century Tudor-style home which was previously used as offices could have its use returned to a home.

The property is in Romney Place, Maidstone, opposite Sainsbury’s and the Mall multi-storey car park.

It is on a row of terraced homes which were converted for offices between the 1980s and 1990s.

If given the green light, proposals would see minor internal alterations to the rear ground floor extension to “optimise the use of space and create a new family bathroom”.

The application site, No. 5, is currently an unoccupied office building.

A design access statement about the project said: “The scheme seeks to create amenable home that reflect today’s living standards, thus safeguarding the continued use of the site for years to come.

“The proposals are minor in nature and all the features deemed to be of high significance, including the fireplaces, staircases and the general layout will be preserved.”
