A GRANDMOTHER from Maidstone has won more than £2 million in lottery cash. Denise Waghorn had a surprise in store when she walked into her local shop and discovered that the ticket she had bought a few days earlier had earned a cash prize of £2,141,000.

Mrs Waghorn correctly guessed the six balls on the National Lottery lucky dip, defying the odds, which show a one in 14 million chance of hitting the jackpot.

Mrs Waghorn, 42, known as Dee, said: "When I found out, I was totally amazed. It didn't sink in to begin with."

She recalled entering Rinika's, the newsagents in Chatham Road, Maidstone, after dropping off her 11-month-old granddaughter, Tiegan, at her son Dean's home in Maidstone.

Mrs Waghorn, who lives in the town centre, close to Rinika's, said: "I only went into the shop to get my newspaper and sort out my lottery tickets and I came out a multi-millionaire. It's the sort of thing that only happens in your dreams." She arrived home to a disbelieving husband, Peter.

Mrs Waghorn, a library assistant, is still deciding how to spend the money. She said: "We are still in shock. We are going to go away for a little while to think about what to do with the money."

Among the options being considered are a new car, holidays and home improvements. The Waghorns are discussing the plans with her children, Matthew, 25, Janine, 22, and 21-year-old Dean.
