A young woman from Headcorn is hoping to become the next Miss England.
Katie Lucas, 24, of Locks Yard, has won a place in the semi-finals after success in qualifying pageants.
The former Sutton Valence School pupil has lived in the village for two years, and was previously not far away in Tenterden.
Slightly surprisingly, she works in the construction industry. She is a project plan co-ordinator for Mott MacDonald based at Kings Hill.
She will be competing against 50 other girls at Kelham Hall at Newark in Nottinghamshire on May 19.
