Hooded raiders target off-licence
00:00, 24 September 2004
MASKED raiders today smashed their way into an off-licence stealing a quantity of cigarettes and cash before fleeing.
The robbery happened at about 4.20am at Unwins Wine Merchants in Boxley Road, Maidstone. It is the fourth time in a year the store has been raided.
The three robbers, all believed to be men and wearing balaclavas and hooded tops, were originally thought to have reversed a car into the shop to gain entry. It is now believed they used a sledgehammer.
They made off from the scene in a car, thought to be a Rover, heading towards Boxley village.
