Hundreds of people helped mark the centenary of the end of the First World War during a town centre ceremony.

Servicemen and women from years gone by and current members of the armed forces marched through Maidstone's Week Street and the High Street at around 10.30am.

Crowds watched on as they made their way to the war memorial at Broadway opposite Maidstone West Station where they heard the sounds of the Last Post before falling silent for two minutes.

A number of wreaths were also laid at the foot of the memorial before the Lord's Prayer was read out and the ceremony returned to the High Street.

Millions of people across the country will honour our fallen soldiers at Remembrance services.

Today marks Armistice day which this year also marks 100 years since the end of the First World War.

Churches across Maidstone, Malling and the Weald sounded their bells while beacons are due to be lit this evening.
