Maidstone artist and Do Your Bit founder Bobby Duncan hit by lorry in Holland Way

00:01, 06 December 2018

An artist and charity founder was airlifted to hospital after being hit by a lorry days before starting a new job.

Bobby Duncan is now recovering in a London Hospital and a fundraising page has already raised hundreds to help get him back on his feet. A mystery donor has already sent in £840.

The accident happened on Friday, just before 10am in Holland Road, Maidstone, and it is thought Mr Duncan, a former flight attendant, was due to start a new job on Monday.

In May the 26-year-old drew in crowds by turning his car into a canvas for passers-by in Fremlin Walk, to promote awareness of mental health.

Mr Duncan set up Do Your Bit in May. This involves setting up projects where people work together and using their creativity to help support charities.

In July the former University of Creative Arts student said: “I came through some real hardship and wanted to give something back. Now I’m finding multiple ways to use my talents to raise money.”

Since Saturday the ‘Let’s get Bobby a great Christmas’ fundraising page has raised £930.

It was created by Tracie Hobden, whose daughter is Mr Duncan’ s partner.

Ms Hobden, from Dorset, wrote: “It’s never a good time to be so poorly but sometimes this time of year makes it all harder, please help raise some money for Bobby and give him a good Christmas.”

An air ambulance was called out to Holland Road on Friday, along with police, fire crews and Secamb.

The road was closed between Sittingbourne Road and Hedley Street, with a cordon set up around Princes Street. Secamb confirmed a man was flown to Kings College Hospital with serious leg injuries.

A spokesman added: “We responded with two ambulances, two cars and our Hazardous Area Response Team.” No arrests were made following the incident. The fundraising page is tinyurl.com/bobbyduncan
