Hundreds of people turned out for a public meeting last night to discuss plans to build almost 1,000 new homes on their estate.

More than 400 residents filled Kings Community Centre, in Gibson Drive, to view the proposed designs and voice their opinion on the scheme.

The majority of people were not in favour of the scheme, put forward by Liberty Property Trust, and urged the parish council to challenge the outline planning application which has been submitted to Tonbridge and Malling council.

The audience welcomed the possibilty of a new primary school but raised concerns over its location and about the potential traffic issues the expansion could cause.

Cllr Sarah Parker, chairman of the parish planning and transportation committee, urged the attendees to register their views on the borough council website.

The application can be viewed at www.tmbc.gov.uk, using reference 13/01535/OAEA.

People have until Friday to submit their comments.
