Hunt for poison pen pervert

00:00, 14 December 2001

A POISON pen pervert is targeting women and children in Maidstone with obscene letters.

A series of notes with sexual and abusive references have been found in the Shepway area in the past month.

At the weekend two 14-year-old girls discovered a letter in an alleyway between Middlesex Road and Sutton Road in which the writer threatened to sexually assault any woman who read it. The girls were not approached and the letter was passed on to police.

According to police, two boys aged 10 and 11 found a similar note last month in the playground of Senacre Wood Primary School. Other notes have been found in alleyways in Shepway. There are fears that the perverted letters are the work of same man who plagued women in the area in May this year. Extensive police investigations failed to identify the man.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw a man in his late 30s near Senacre Wood Primary School on Friday, November 16, shortly before the boys found the letter.

He is 5ft7ins, slim with short dark hair with blond streaks. He was wearing a grey and black sports jacket, a grey T-shirt and black trousers.

Anyone with any information should call Maidstone police on 01622 608182 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
