RSPCA investigation after dead dog found behind bins in Nettlestead near Maidstone
09:00, 27 November 2013
An investigation has been launched after a dead dog was found lying behind a cluster of bins near Maidstone.
The male black and white bull terrier cross was discovered in Maidstone Road, Nettlestead.
The animal, which had a suspected broken back leg, was found after a passer-by caught sight of its paw.
The RSPCA fears it might have been hidden deliberately as it said the bins appeared to have been moved "tactfully" to conceal the body.
Inspector Emily Cheeseman said it is possible the dog was hit by a vehicle after she found broken indicator glass from a vehicle on and near the road.
She said: "It's likely there were two scenarios, either the poor dog was dumped for an unknown reason or someone hit him with their car, panicked and then tried to hide the body.
"The person who found the dog has already gone to extraordinary efforts to locate the his owners, including going door-to-door to see if anyone recognises the animal.
"It's so sad that someone might be searching for their much-loved pet and doesn't know he has died."
Witnesses or anyone with information about the dog or its owners are urged to phone the RSPCA on 0300 123 8018.
