A shop worker has shared the frightening story of when a robber threatened her with a knife.

Jack Reader brazenly walked into the Shop on the Green in Chart Sutton in January, threatened a woman with a knife and made off with a paltry £100.

Now the volunteer, who came face to face with Reader, has shared what happened on January 21.

The woman, who is in her 60s, said: "It was extremely frightening.

"The shop is run by volunteers, I had swapped my shift so I wasn't even supposed to work there when it happened.

"I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time."

The volunteer, who asked to remain anonymous, added: "He waltzed into the shop and as he walked up to the counter he pulled out a knife.

"He told me to open the till, at that point I pressed the wrong button and it just made a noise.

"He said 'come on you can do it, open the till', he wasn't very pleasant.

"I've been volunteering here for three years and nothing like this has happened before."

CCTV from outside the shop led police to arrest Reader, 20, and he later admitted robbery and possessing a knife in public.

Last week Reader, of Terrace Road, Maidstone was sentenced to four years and three months in prison for the robbery and 18 months for the other charge, which will run concurrently.

His victim said: "I'm happy with the sentence, I don't think I would have been if it was any less.

"Because he pleaded guilty I didn't have to go to court which is good, I don't think I would have liked that.

"It still plays on my mind a little bit. Every time the door goes you're looking

"The police have been great through, especially with their support since it happened."
