A Kent MP has said she is recovering from breast cancer after being diagnosed earlier this year.
Helen Grant, who represents Maidstone and Weald, shared her journey on social media platform X, formally known as Twitter, this morning (September 23).
She said: âHuge gratitude to a truly amazing all-female team at The Royal Marsden Hospital for taking me through my breast cancer journey so far; from diagnosis in June, to mastectomy and reconstruction surgery last week, and now on to recovery.
âThank you, NHS for your vital screening service.â
The Royal Marsden Hospital, in Kensington and Chelsea, London, specialises in cancer treatment.
Grant's post has received a wave of support from both members of the public and her Westminster colleagues.
This include Tracey Crouch, who represents Chatham and Aylesford, and has previously faced her own battle with breast cancer.
She said: âYou are doing amazingly. An honour to be here supporting you on this journey.â
Crouch was diagnosed with the disease in 2020 after finding a 33mm lump in her right breast.
The former sports minster completed her treatment in February 2021 and two years on climbed to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro as part of a fundraiser for a breast cancer charity.
In 2017, Grant joined Celixir, a company developing new treatments involving cell biotechnology, as a non-executive director following her husband Simon's brush with cancer.
But according to Companies House, she resigned from her role in 2018.
Grant has been an elected Conservative member of parliament since 2010.
