A former town centre Post Office is to be turned into Kent’s first “rage room”.
The unit between The Brenchley and nightclub Ballin’ in Bank Street, Maidstone, has been decorated with posters advertising its conversion into “Rage Out”.
Rage rooms are understood to have originated in Japan.
People pay to enter a room filled with items, including anything from flat-pack furniture to kitchen appliances, before picking a weapon and smashing everything up.
Visitors have a set time to take out their frustrations on the objects, often to a soundtrack of their choice.
The unusual attraction has grown in popularity in the UK, with the closest being in Erith and Bromley.
On its website, Rage Out says: “We all have to deal with stress in our daily lives.
“Whether it’s because of work, home, or anything else, the stress can build up and manifest itself in unhelpful ways such as anxiety and high blood pressure.
“Some people believe the best way to relieve stress and anger is to break things.
“So rather than doing this in your own home with your own stuff, come and visit our smash therapy room.
“This allows you to destroy things without having to worry about the mess or the consequences.
“After a 30-minute session in our room you’ll leave feeling much more relaxed than when you entered.”
There will also be an axe-throwing room where customers will be shown the best way to hit a target.
Rage Out will take over the former Post Office unit which closed in 2016 and then became gift card shop Emotions which has also since shut.
It is set to open on Friday, July 28 with but will also hold three soft opening days from Friday, July 21-23.
Paul Fisher, the chief rager behind the new business, said: “My daughter wanted to do something different for her birthday and decided on a Rage Room based on the TikTok videos she’s seen.
“The closest venue that looked any good was central London, so I set out to bring the madness to Kent.
“Our location is large enough to also include Axe Throwing for something a little different to the usual family day out/date night.
“The feedback we’ve received has been awesome, to the point that our website crashed thrree times in the first week!”
