Pink was the only colour to be seen in at Leeds Castle at the weekend when fundraisers took part in Kent’s first Breast Cancer Pink Ribbonwalk.
Hundreds enjoyed a 10 and 20-mile strollwalk around the picturesque surroundings in aid of the cancer charity. Last year’s events across the country raised a combined £1 million.
Among the walkers were Loose Women presenter Andrea McLean and kmfm breakfast show presenter Emma Saint, with Emma joining the pre-walk warm-up session to take on the 10-mile circuit.
Many of those involved taking part were doing so in memory of loved ones.
Trish Colman, 53, from Maidstone, who works for the London Fire Service, was one of a group who walked as the Bluebelles. She said: “My father died from prostate cancer, my brother died from testicular cancer and my mother died from breast cancer so this is in their memory.
“I’m was really looking forward to taking on the 10-mile walk as it’s such a lovely family atmosphere and Leeds castle is so beautiful.”
While Claire Leadbetter, 49, a teaching assistant from Kings Hill said: “I was diagnosed 10 days before my 40th birthday so today is a poignant day for me. I’m walking 10 miles – a mile for every year since my diagnosis.
“The camaraderie of days like today is just fantastic. It’s just a chance to give something back after all the wonderful care I received.”
Funds raised from the event, which was supported by the KM Group, will go to provide information and support services including a helpline, one-to-one support sessions and discussion forums.
Last year’s events across the UK raised £1m.
