If you have a spare £7.3 million you could be the proud owner of a country estate, steeped in history.

The Linton Estate has gone on the market for the first time in more than 50 years.

The 18th century park, in Linton on the edge of Maidstone, is next to the former country seat of the Cornwallis family. It has come up for sale as the current owners are relocating abroad.

The estate was up for sale in up to 15 lots with guide prices ranging from £325,000 to £1.1 million or £7.3 million as a whole.

In the 1960's the estate was divided up. Part of the land, featuring a grand country house built by Robert Mann in 1730 was sold into separate ownership. The mansion house, now used as office accommodation, is not part of the estate now up for sale.

But what is included is a large house - Cuckoo Field House and several other cottages, plus ancient parkland.

The house is approached by a long, private drive, the estate is hidden away and has what the agents describe as a “high level of seclusion” and stunning views over the Weald.

The site covers 327 acres of pasture, arable and woodland, while the other 18 acres are made up of Linton Lake, a cricket club, farm buildings and property.

Owned by the Daubeny family since the early 1960s the house is described as being ‘lavishly’ restored and redecorated and there are also six cottages on the surrounding land.

The estate is not open to the public.
