Thousands of pupils across the county are receiving their A-level results this morning.

We've got a team of reporters at schools across Maidstone, Malling and the Weald and the first results are starting to come in.

Here's a stream of reactions and grades from across the patch.

Wrotham School:

Wrotham School are celebrating record results with more students than ever before getting into the university of their choice. 76% achieved A*-C with particular success in product design, business studies, ICT and BTEC science.

Holly Florence has secured a place Bournemouth to study psychology and Russell Brown will go on to study architecture at the University of Kent.

A spokesperson for the school said: “This upward trend of results is excellent for the students and the school and the AS results are also showing great promise. Congratulations to our and other students and we look forward to hearing about their ongoing achievements.”

Maidstone Grammar School:

Six MGS pupils are off to Oxbridge this year and just under 60% of the 165 who sat exams got A* to B grades. Almost one in three grades was either an A* or an A and 25 students achieved three or more As.

Top scholars included William Grace, who got four A*s and became the first MGS pupil to get top grades in all three STEP (Sixth Term Examination Paper) exams, which are needed to study maths at Cambridge, and Sam Coward, who also gained four A*s.

Alex Luisi, of West Malling, who got A*s in maths, physics and history and an A in computing, said he was “reservedly hopeful” of getting the grades and is off to Imperial College London to study electronics and information systems engineering.

School vice captain Lydia Ross, from Biddenden, who achieved three A grades and is going to Bristol University to study to be a vet, couldn’t remember her UCAS password so had a nervous wait to find out she’d got onto the course.

She said: “I was thrilled when I opened the envelope.”

Simeon Wentzel, from Bearsted, is also off to Cambridge after achieving three A*s and an A, and Dom Smith, from Loose, will be studying history at the University of Leeds after achieving As in politics and history and B in classical civilisations.

Dom’s mum, the school’s exam officer Sue Smith, screamed when she heard her son had got into his first choice and he picked her up and gave her a hug.

Dom said: “I was tempted to tell her I didn’t get in but it was too hard to keep a straight face.”

Head teacher Mark Tomkins said: “There are excellent results that reflect the hard work of the students to achieve and of their teachers to support and guide their learning.”

Swadelands School:

Swadelands Sixth Form students were celebrating another year of successful results on A-levels results day. Some 80% of students achieved an A grade in one of their subjects with 69% achieving the top grades in two of their subject areas.

This has led to a record number of students securing places at University to study a diverse group of subjects.

Shannon Higerty, Harvey Willis and Danny Cook achieved particular success leaving the school with 5 A-levels with all three planning to attend university in September.

Head teacher, Richard Baddeley, said: “I am delighted for the students. They have worked extremely hard to achieve such high standards and I am immensely proud that so many of them want to continue their education and go to university.

"I would also like to congratulate the teachers and support staff who have encouraged and helped our students so well. Everybody at the school wishes our students every success in the future whether it be at University or in employment.”

Tonbridge School:

Tonbridge School is celebrating another excellent set of A-level results, with 76 per cent of all grades either an A* or A.

A record 26 boys hold a clean sweep of A*s for all of their subjects and 58 per cent of boys hold three or more As or better. 38 per cent of all grades were A*s. The median average grades at A level for a Tonbridge student are AAAB.

37 boys holding offers for either Cambridge or Oxford Universities have achieved their place, with more likely to apply post A level.

96.7% of all grades at the school were A* to C.

Tonbridge School Headmaster, Tim Haynes, said: “Congratulations to boys and staff for their efforts in achieving these results.”

Maidstone Grammar School for Girls

At MGGS 28% of the grades were A*-A. Alice Feazy-Noble achieved 3 A*’s in mathematics, chemistry and physics and an A in biology.

Music student Sarah Hughes was delighted to have secured a place at Oxford to read music.

Headteacher Deborah Stanley said: “We are thrilled for all of our students that their hard work has paid off, and they have achieved such an excellent set of results. We wish them all the best in all their plans for the future.

West Kent College

West Kent College were delighted with their 100% success rate in citizenship, drama, English literature, further mathematics, politics, history and media studies.

Many students will be progressing on to some of the country’s top universities including Bristol, Reading, Brighton and De Montfort.

Alana Bowen-Burford achieved an A* in law and has decided to travel for a year before taking up a place at Warwick University to study psychology. Meanwhile Joel Saunders, who got an A in business studies, will go on to study at Bournemouth University.

The Maplesden Noakes School

Students at The Maplesden Noakes School also received outstanding results. Headteacher Jane Prideaux was delighted with the grades which are improving year on year.

Michaela Porter, 18, received two A*’s and one A grade, securing a place at Warwick University. Meanwhile, Mukeh Lansana also performed well, securing an A*, A and a B. He will go on to study at the University of York.

The school’s sports department also boasted great results with four student achieving Distinction* for their BTEC sports studies course.

Invicta Grammar School for Girls

Students at Invicta Grammar School achieved 69% A*- B grades in their A-level studies this year. Between them students have achieved 200 A* and A grades and out of a cohort of 160 100% A*-E grades and 90% A*-C grades were gained, with 12% A* grades.

The school has doubled the number of students achieving an A* to B grade in two or more facilitating subjects from 21.7% to 42.5%.

Head Girl, Katie Driver, was jumping for joy having gained 4A*/A grades. She is going to study Medicine at Bristol and said: "I have had a wonderful time at Invicta. I have grown so much and gained so much from all the invaluable support and friendship from staff and students."

Kiera Doughty achieved 5 A* grades and will be studying Mathematics at Cambridge. Laura Satchwell bagged herself 5 A* and A grades and will go on to study management at the University of Bath. Lisa Phipps, another delighted Invicta pupil, achieved 5 A* and A grades and will be studying Veterinary medicine at the University of Edinburgh.

High Weald Academy, Cranbrook:

High Weald Academy Principal Carrie Beech said: “There have been a lot of smiley faces here this morning. Most of those students who were looking to go to university have got the grades they needed. Others have elected to go for apprenticeships or to other colleges.

“Our English department excelled itself again. We had a 100% pass rate in both English Language and literature - for the 11th year running!”

Of the academy’s 43 Year 13 students, 43 took A-levels with a 1005 pass rate and 50% at grades A to C. Also 37 took BTECs with a 96% pass rate and 88% gaining a merit or above.

Future School's Trust

Ninety-four students, based at Cornwallis and New Line Learning Academies, sat this year's exams with a quarter of all papers marked as A* and A grades. Overall, 75% of all grades were A* to C - setting a new record for the Sixth Form.

David Simons, principal at Cornwallis Academy, in Hubbards Lane, Linton, said: "I am delighted with yet another fantastic set of A-level results achieved by our Sixth Form students. We have more students than ever gaining the top grades and therefore securing their desired university places."

Head Girl, Rebecca Hubbard, is heading to Greenwich University to study event management after securing A* grades in travel and tourism, and business. She was also awarded a B in design technology.

Mid Kent College:

Of the A-level students at the college, 85 studied at Medway, with an overall pass rate of 94%, and 90 at Maidstone where 85% passed.

Amber Curling was ecstatic to achieve A grades in business and psychology and an A* in communication and culture and is planning to move on to the University of Lincoln to study animation.

College faculty director for science, humanities and access Emma Wilkinson said: “Based on the results we know that a very high proportion will be progressing to the university of their choice.”

The Hayesbrook School:

The Tonbridge school achieved a 100% pass rate. Nine out of the 33 students in year 13 achieved A*-C grades in their A-level exams with the rest securing A*-E. 27 students recorded high Distinction grades in their BTEC studies.

Principal, David Day, said: "This excellent set of results will be a major boost to the university and employment aspirations of our Sixth Formers."

Tunbridge Wells Grammar School:

At Tunbridge Wells Girls' Grammar School a whopping one in five exam results were marked as an A*. Of the 134 pupils, 37 attained three A grades or higher.

There were also three girls to achieve three A* grades.

Oakwood Park Grammar School:

A third of all grades at Oakwood Park Grammar School were A*s and As with the majority of pupils heading off to university.

Top performing student Rabey Chowdhury will be studying natural sciences at Cambridge after gaining three A* grades and one A.

Top performing Oakwood Park pupil Rabey Chowdhury, mum Sadika and big brother Tahmid celebrated A-level results.

The fourth sibling in his family to go to university said: “I was shocked when I saw my results but happy. I will celebrate but I don’t know how yet.”

Maidstone man Simon Dacey combined competing for Great Britain in fencing with working towards his A-levels, gaining four As and a place at University College London to study chemistry.

Pupils James Handy, Ivan Pilfold, Nelson Talukder, Barney Green and James Creasey all got straight A* and A grades and are off to study either maths or engineering.

Euan Dickson will specialise in climate change when he studies environmental geography at the University of East Anglia after achieving three As.

Jessica Mancktelow will study accounting and financial management at Loughborough University, and Charlie Wright hopes to be a barrister after he graduates with a law degree from the London School of Economics.

Aaron Jackson, from Barming, got into his first choice, University of East Anglia, with two As and a B, but is hoping instead to get chosen for an apprenticeship with the KM Group.

Head teacher Kevin Moody said: “I am delighted for all our students in an increasingly competitive and demanding examination system that they have achieved such excellent results.”

Sutton Valence School:

Students at Sutton Valence School are celebrating their successes after achieving phenomenal A level results. 17% of the pupils gained straight A or A* grades.

For the second year in a row, the A*-B pass rate was 70%, despite Ofqual limiting grade inflation by reducing the number of top grades awarded since 2010.

Every candidate passed their exams, with 86% of students gaining A* to C.

Head teacher, Bruce Grindlay, said, "Our students’ success has been achieved through their ambition and efforts and the total commitment of the staff to their progress.

"It has been accomplished by a group of young adults that has been successful in all aspects of School life. These are remarkable young people and this is a very proud day for the School.”

Hillview School for Girls:

Students at Hillview School for Girls are celebrating excellent results again this year, with the vast majority taking up their first place university offer. Hillview bucked the national trend in A* and A grades with an impressive 15% of students achieving A* grades. Many departments are celebrating 100% A*–C pass rate once again this year with Fashion BTEC and Dance particularly successful.

High achievers include Lily-Ann Hyland, Emily Addison, Jeremy Mei, Ashleigh Cawley secured, Kate Bovey, Cheryl Cowley and Rebeccah Sandmeier-Jeffery.

Head of Sixth Form, Abigail Owen, said “Students have done remarkably well this year and I’m so pleased that so many students are equipped with the skills they need for their next steps in their careers or future education.”

Fashion student Verity Weller, who received Double Distinction* in her Fashion BTEC, is poised to take up a place at the prestigious London College of Fashion to study a B.A. (Hons) in Bespoke Tailoring. Verity said “I am so excited about this opportunity and am so thrilled to have got the grades I needed. The teachers at Hillview have given me the independence and opportunity to create individual and innovative pieces of work.”

Headteacher Elaine Buchanan said “I’m delighted with our results this year. Our students and teachers have worked so hard and are celebrating a well-deserved success.”

The Skinners' School, Tunbridge Wells:

The Skinners' School is celebrating fantastic results this year. Out of 115 students and 372 entries 79% A* - B grades were acheived and 52.2% A* and A grades.

Homesdale Technology College:

Students and staff at Holmesdale Technology College celebrated as results rose to 98% of students attaining 3 or more A-levels, or the equivalent, with the percentage of the top 2 grades rising to 55%.

School ambassador Over half of the 42 who attended the Sixth Form will move on to university, with every student who applied getting their first choice.

Ben McCutcheon, 18, achieved two A*s and has secured a place at Greenwich University to study engineering after a planned gap year.

Principal, Julia Campbell, said: “I am really delighted for our students, they have worked hard and been well taught and supported by their teachers. Their onward journeys have been secured and these positive next steps are well deserved. We wish them every success for their future.”

St Simon Stock Catholic School:

St Simon Stock Catholic School enjoyed a 100% pass rate with 92% of pupils achieving two or more A-levels.

The percentage of pupils gaining A* to B grades increased by almost 10% to 43% with top performing students including friends Clara Senior, from Kings Hill, and Sarah Pattinson, from Maidstone, who both got into Durham University with two A*s and an A.

Mikaela D’Souza, from Maidstone, was “overwhelmed” by her three As, in geography, PE and psychology, and is looking forward to studying geography at the University of Nottingham.

Maidstone man Matt Brown got into the University of Exeter with two As and a B and will study economics and finances with the intention of embarking on a career in banking, while Daniel Ellesmore, also from Maidstone, got onto a pharmacy degree at Cardiff University.

He said: “I was hoping for those grades but I was relieved to get them. We were going to celebrate with a barbecue but we might have to change our plans because of the weather.”

Head teacher Brendan Wall said: “I am delighted with the strength of the results. There were some outstanding individual achievements.

“The highest achieving students gained grades equal to our best in 2013 and will be attending the top Russell group and other universities and we wish them every success in the future. Others will be moving to apprenticeships and employment in vocational areas.”

The Malling School:

With only 21 pupils in Year 13, The Malling school has a tight-knit Sixth Form which didn’t stop their grades rising by 60 points, the equivalent to 2 grade boundaries.

Out of the 15 who took their A-levels at the Beech Road school, 14 will be going to their chosen universities.

Rebecca Martin, 18, will be studying Clinical Exercise Science at Bournemouth University.

She said “I’m really excited to go to uni now and just really relieved I got the grades to get in.”

Carl Roberts, Principal, said: “I’m really pleased with the A-level results, our kids have done really well and helped to boost our Ofsted report to ‘good’ in June, one step closer to outstanding. We wish them the best of luck.”

Valley Park School:

Students, parents and staff at Valley Park School are celebrating another record set of A level results. Eighty students sat examinations in Year 13 with 57% of the grades achieved at A and A*. The A* to C pass rate is an impressive 87% . Fourteen students gained A and A* in at least three subjects. Notable high performers are Briony Everest, Ayesha Cooper, Poppy Harris, Rojina Giri, James Kiell, Titas Kuprys, Zoe Noble, Emily Nurden, Nelson Rai, Mitchell Ranger, Sam Read, Harry Simpson, Danielle Spry and Kim Warren.

Headteacher Vic Ashdown commented: “This is an outstanding set of results with records broken across the board. We are thrilled for our students and their families who will be celebrating many fantastic individual successes whilst planning for exciting futures in September.”

Danielle Spry, of Grove Green, is on her way to Canterbury Christchurch University — her first choice university — to study primary education.

The 18-year-old said: “I feel amazing, I can’t believe it and am completely overwhelmed. I found out at home this morning on the UCAS website. It took so long to log on but when I found out I’d got in I was screaming and running around the house.”

Bethany School:

At Bethany School in Goudhurst Bethany Year 13 pupils celebrated a 99% pass rate.

Among the high fliers was Laura Graham from Horsham, who will be studying fashion at the University of Creative Arts, whose alumni include Tracey Emin and Karen Millen, following her three A* grades.

Headmaster Francie Healy said: “Our focus on the individual has yet again been reflected in the range of opportunities and achievements secured by our pupils today.

Aylesford School - Sports College:

Aylesford Sports College this year recorded a set of record breaking A-level results, with 97% of the grades being A*-E and nearly 50% being A*-B. More students from the school than ever before are going on to university.

One stand out success, Katie Wakely, 18, achieved an A* in English Literature, an A in Sociology and a B in Applied Business – she is off to the University of Kent to study Law.

Headteacher Charlie Guthrie said: “I am so proud of the remarkable achievements of our students who are about to embark on exciting and ambitious futures.”

"It is a great honour and a privilege to observe such growth in character and accomplishment and I wish our pupils continued success and happiness.”

Tunbridge Wells Girls' Grammar School:

At Tunbridge Wells Girls' Grammar School a whopping one in five exam results were marked as an A*. Of the 134 pupils, 37 attained three A grades or higher.

There were also three girls to achieve three A* grades.

Cranbrook School:

Cranbrook School has secured its biggest crop of A* results ever: with 13% of all results at the top grade. Of the 150 students who took A-levels, 91% achieved A* to C grades.

Headmaster Dr John Weeds said: “Within the school, we like to look at A* and B results. This year 76% of all results were at those grades, which is our second best year.

“This year’s sixth form gelled together particularly well as a team and they’ve achieved outstanding results across the board. Most got the grades they needed to go to their first-choice university.”

The star pupil was Jamie Lerpiniere from Hawkhurst, who gained A*s in all four of his subjects: maths, further maths, physics and chemistry. He is off to Durham to study physics.

Mascalls School:

Half of all A-level grades at Mascalls were graded B and above, and that figure was an impressive 83% for BTECs.

Among the high achievers were Georgia Marchant who received A*s in applied science, sociology and business BTEC, and Helen Thompson who got A*s in geography and sociology along with an A in biology.

All pupils who sat a Music BTEC were celebrating, with a 100% pass rate.
