Luther to line-up for Lashings?

00:00, 29 August 2003

MAIDSTONE restaurant proprietor David Folb has signed former England striker Luther Blissett to play for his Lashings Football Club next season.

The 42-year-old ex-Watford and AC Milan player has been signed up on a match to match basis as Mr Folb seeks to raise the profile of the Lashings football team which plays in the Maidstone & District League on Saturdays and the Kent Messenger Maidstone & Mid Kent League on Sundays.

"I am intending to make some high profile signings," said Mr Folb, who has built a celebrity World XI cricket team which regularly includes some of the best players in the game.

Mr Folb said there were no plans to build a celebrity football team, but admitted: "We are just testing the water at the moment." Lashings have in the past been linked with ex-Luton and England player Ricky Hill and former Liverpool striker Ian Rush.
