Lydia Greenway, a member of the triumphant team that won the women’s world cricket cup in Australia, is coming to Mid-Kent - and bringing the trophy with her.

It is not often that England win a world trophy, and Lydia’s visit to Leeds and Broomfield Cricket Club on May 26 will be a chance to see a rare piece of silverware.

England were not only victorious in the ICCWomen’s World Cup, they also hold the Ashes, both feats the men cannot claim at the moment.

LBCC is one of Kent’s leading community focus clubs, and the magnificent world trophy is designed to boost the development of the club’s girls section of the historic club which plays within the grounds of Leeds Castle.

The special, girls-only cricket day for 9 - 12 year olds, is supported by Chance to Shine, the Cricket Foundation’s national campaign to educate state school children through cricket.

Lydia is a Chance to Shine ambassador and coach who will be coaching and giving top tips to all the girls taking part.

John Higgs, chairman of Leeds and Broomfield CC Juniors, said: "We are thrilled that Lydia and the ICC Women’s World Cup will be coming to our club. As a progressive club with ECB Clubmark accreditation and the willingness to promote the game at all levels, LBCC adopted the only women’s team in the area during the winter."

"With the successful integration of two senior women’s teams, we are now looking to increase the female membership, particularly at junior level, and to arrange fixtures for them. A warm welcome awaits girls and their parents to our friendly club for this girls only event during the Whitsun half term holiday."

Recently, history was made at the 247-year old club when newly-formed Leeds & Broomfield Women - LBW- notched up the first win by an all-women team at the ground.

The girls’ cricket day costs just £2.00 and takes place at LBCC, Burberry Lane, Leeds, Tuesday May 26 from 10.30am-3.00pm. There will be coaching and mini cricket matches as well as the chance to be photographed with Lydia Greenway and the Women’s Cricket World Cup.
