M2 roadwork plans mean overnight diversions

Motorists have been warned there is set to be road closures on the M2 for resurfacing work.

Starting on Monday from 8pm, there will be an overnight closure between junction 5 for Sittingbourne, Sheppey and Maidstone and junction 4 at Gillingham on the London-bound M2 for resurfacing to be able to take place, with the work scheduled to finish at 6am on Tuesday morning.

During this time, traffic on the M2 will exit at junction 5 where it will join the A249 and then go onto the M20 and A229 before re-joining the M2 at junction 3 at Blue Bell Hill.

From Monday, March 22, the coast-bound carriageway between junction 5 and junction 7 for Canterbury will also close overnight from 8pm until 6am. This work will continue until Friday, March 26 and will happen on Monday, March 29 too.

Drivers will be diverted off at the junction 5 slip road, onto the A249 and then the A2 Canterbury Road to re-join M2 at junction 7.

The London-bound carriageway at junction 7 (A2/A299) will be closed overnight from 8pm to 6am from 22 March to Friday, March 26 as well.

Traffic will be diverted onto A2 Canterbury Road, A249 to re-join the M2 at junction 5.
