Part of the M20 is closed after a three-vehicle crash left a casualty seriously injured.
Police shut the London-bound stretch between Junctions 6 and 5 at Maidstone at about 2.30pm.
The air ambulance was called and one person is understood to have sustained a serious injury.
The closure is still in place to allow emergency services personnel to safely treat people, clear debris and allow officers to carry out inquiries to establish the full circumstances.
Drivers stuck in the tailbacks are being told to remain in their vehicles as officers are in the process of turning traffic around.
Anyone who witnessed the crash, or with dash camera footage, is asked to contact police on 01622 798538, quoting 31-0815.
