Green will be the colour on everyone's minds when the County Town goes eco friendly this week.

Activities are planned for the next five days to mark Maidstone Goes Green Week.

Commuters, shoppers and residents are being urged to think about the environment when they plan their journeys.

It kicks off with a day focussed on bicycles, with free bike safety checks on offer at Fremlin Walk.

Tuesday is car sharing day and Wednesday will see the launch of the school walking bus scheme in the area.

People are encouraged to jump on a bus on Thursday and Friday is In Town Without My Car Day with free mini breakfasts provided outside the town hall and The Mall Chequers for those taking part.

We'll have features each day throughout the week, and a full report in the Kent Messenger on Friday.
