Police believe a pedestrian killed on the M20 yesterday morning was a migrant.

Officers are continuing to investigate the incident which happened between junctions 8 and 9 on the coastbound stretch of carriageway just before 7am yesterday.

It is believed the unidentified man was hit by a van.

Inquiries to establish the man's identity and inform his next of kin are ongoing.

Ambulance crews were called to the scene of the collision near Hollingbourne with the man pronounced dead at the scene. No other casualties were reported.

The road was closed for seven hours, with one lane of the London-bound carriageway also shut briefly to aid police's investigation.

All traffic was being sent off the motorway at junction 8 and diverted via the A20 to Ashford.

Diverted traffic using the A20 was further disrupted due to a nearby road being closed after a hole was discovered in the surface on Monday.

Disruption spread to the A249, with traffic backing up to just before the Stockbury roundabout on the Maidstone-bound carriageway.

Police are now appealing for information and ask witnesses to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit's witness appeal line on 01622 798538.
