A man who died after being hit by a lorry outside a hospital is thought to have "stepped in front of it", an inquest has heard.
Kevin Brice, 57, died on Tuesday, February 1, from fatal head injuries after being hit by a lorry in Hermitage Lane, Maidstone.
An inquest at County Hall was opened today and adjourned July 19 until police can establish the full details leading up to the tragedy.
The coroner heard how at 8.30am that morning Mr Brice was hit by the vehicle and died from his injuries.
Emergency services, including police and ambulance crews, were rushed to the scene close to Maidstone hospital.
Mr Brice, who is from Aberdeen in Scotland but was born in Maidstone, was declared dead at the scene.
The tragic incident closed the well-used road for around six hours, stopping traffic in both directions, and caused delays for people heading to the hospital.
Following Mr Brice's death officers would like to hear from anyone who saw the collision, or the pedestrian’s movements in the moments leading up to it.
Drivers are also asked to check dashcams for any footage which may assist the investigation. If you can help, call 01622 604100, quoting reference 01-0230.
