Man extradited from Romania after serious assault on 19-year-old girl in Maidstone

A suspect charged with violently attacking a 19-year-old girl in Maidstone has been flown back to Britain from Romania.
Gabriel Calin, of no fixed address, was escorted onto an plane by Kent Police officers in Bucharest and returned to the UK yesterday.
The 27-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court today charged with wounding with intent, attempted wounding with intent, inflicting grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The attack is alleged to have been on a 19-year-old woman in Loose Road last April.
She is reported to have been grabbed by the hand and punched twice in the face after being followed home at around 1am.
It is alleged she then fell to the floor before screaming and fighting off the offender.
She was later taken to hospital with facial injuries.
Calin was remanded in custody and will next appear at a hearing before Maidstone Crown Court on August 27.
