Missing man found by police
00:00, 03 October 2003
A MAN who police feared had drowned in the River Medway at East Farleigh, near Maidstone, two weeks ago has been found.
Maidstone and Malling police said that the man suffers from mental illness and had become confused, leaving some of his clothing and personal possession on a boat moored on the riverbank.
Although witnesses said they thought he may have gone swimming in the river, police do not believe this was the case.
Their enquiries finally traced the man. He is currently being detained under the Mental Health Act in a secure unit in North Kent.
