Motorist dies as car hits lamppost

POLICE have appealed for information after a motorist died in a crash in Maidstone. His car struck a lamppost.
The accident happened at about 10.30am on Monday on the Chatham-bound carriageway of the A229 Royal Engineers Road near the Springfield roundabout.
The driver, who was at the wheel of a green Rover, died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved. Kent police believe the man, who has yet to be identified, may have suffered a heart attack.
Traffic was reduced to a single lane for some hours following the accident. Witnesses to the incident are asked to contact police on 01622 600970.
