Overnight motorway closures went ahead after an email blunder.
Kier Group, which carries out the Smart Motorway improvement work on the M20 near Maidstone, issued a statement yesterday confirming the plans were cancelled.
But in the same day Highways England released a tweet stating the closures were still going ahead.
The contentious roadworks between junction 4 for Leybourne and junction 6 at Maidstone closed the motorway in both directions between 8pm and 6am and will continue until Sunday.
Chatham and Aylesford MP Tracey Crouch has written to Highways England chief executive Jim O'Sullivan requesting the organisation re-think the works.
She asked for the road to re-open an hour earlier to avoid delays to motorists and bus services.
Kier Group and Highways England have been approach for comment.
