An MP has called for stricter action for those riding e-scooters after teenage boy died when his collided with a BMW.
The youngster lost his life after the fatal crash in Heath Road, Coxheath, at around 10pm on Saturday, July 8.
Police shut the road for around 10 hours while officers and their forensic team examined the site.
Floral tributes have since been left at the junction with Georgian Drive for the victim.
The tragic incident has prompted South Thanet MP Craig Mackinlay to call for e-scooters to be impounded by police.
He said: “Another avoidable tragedy; my thoughts & condolences to the boy’s family.
“I regularly have to avoid erratic e-scooter riders, usually teenage boys.
“I’m sure they’re great fun but they are fast & exposed. They are illegal, it’s time Kent Police treated them as such and impound them when stopped.”
The road reopened at about 8am after the serious collision investigation unit (SCIU) attended.
Anyone with dashcam footage or private CCTV taken in the area which might assist inquiries is being urged to come forward. It can be shared here.
Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the collision or either vehicle beforehand to call the SCIU appeal line on 01622 798 538 or email sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk, quoting HW/HM/070/23.
