All eyes were on the capital’s streets on Sunday, as more than 40,000 runners took part in the biggest ever London Marathon.
Among them were a number of athletes and fundraisers from our area including a spud-tacular Guinness World Record breaker.
Philip Powell from Vinters Park now has the title of the fastest marathon runner dressed as a Mr Potato Head, after beating the previous time of 3 hours 38 minutes by 14 minutes.
The 33-year-old, who runs Hair Professional in King Street, said: “I’ve run the marathon before so rather than just asking for money I thought I’d try and break a world record and a ridiculous one at that.
"I've always wanted to set a world record but never felt I was good enough at anything, but it seems that running is my thing.
"My watch wasn’t working so I set off far too fast and really didn’t think I’d do it. I was really struggling so I was so pleased when I reached the finish line and found I had done it.”
Mr Powell has so far raised more than £4,500 for Action on Hearing Loss.
