Maidstone: Marks and Spencer food store to be built at new London Road BP petrol garage
15:27, 18 April 2016
Work is underway to refurbish a busy petrol station on one of Maidstone's key routes.
The upgrade, at the BP Tudor Garage in Allington, started last month and will see up-market retailer Marks and Spencer move into the site, at the junction of London Road and Conway Road.
Oil-giant BP appointed a contractor to build a new sales building, fuel pumps, and car wash, as well as upgrading the access road and landscape.
Councillors approved plans for the redevelopment in February, after going back to the applicant to ask for clarification after access issues for cars from London Road.
The store is being built under two miles from a giant M&S Foodhall at the South Aylesford Retail Park in Quarry Wood, and less than half a mile from another upmarket retailer, Waitrose.
M&S is yet to confirm when the store will open.
