A nightclub that underwent a £250,000 revamp less than six months ago has announced its closure.

The Green Room, in Earl Street, Maidstone, has said the music venue will "be no more".

In a post to followers a spokesman for the club confirmed the closure was due to a co-owner stepping down.

They said: "Unfortunately DJ Elmino Ácido has decided to leave his position as co-owner and general manager of the Green Rooms.

"Sadly the Green Rooms will be no more. Elmino will be doing a video to explain in depth.

"We would like to thank everybody that got involved, customers, staff and DJs this wouldn't of be possible without you.

"This is not the end."

Previously a Pizza Express, the venue opened as The Green Room in May 2021 but it mysteriously closed its doors in April last year.

Following the announcement the former director of the business, Richard Carerra, blamed a "scaremongering government" and the Covid-19 pandemic for the clubs closure.

He said the business was "broken" by constant Covid restrictions, which saw it miss out on £500,000 of profit.

However the nightclub, which offered five dance rooms playing different genres of house and electronic music, reopened under new ownership on December 3 after a quarter-of-a-million pound revamp - promising to host "big international names".

Together with two associates, Ellis Foreshaw was looking to bring international-style partying and the "best sound system in Kent" to Maidstone.

The Green Room has been contacted for comment.
