Families in one Kent street have camped out in their gardens to raise money for the NHS.

Karen Mckirdy and her husband and Kat Harrington were three of those who slept out in their campervans in Wolfe Road, Maidstone to try and raise funds for healthcare workers on the frontline in the fight against coronavirus.

They were joined by several other families, including the Ottleys, who pitched up their tent on the grass and got involved.

Other neighbours stepped out on their front drive to raise a glass and donate to the cause.

Mrs Mckirdy put a bucket out for cash donations, which totalled £87, while others contributed via the national Great British Campout JustGiving page.

The 54-year-old said: "We have several key workers in our road and feel that with the local hospital near by, it's our way of saying thanks and raising some money as well."

Residents are planning to hold another campout over the May bank holiday weekend.
