Pat Lamb: Online petition set up to place fence around River Medway

10:30, 13 January 2015

An online petition calling for a fence to be put up around the River Medway has been created.

It comes following the tragic death of Pat Lamb who disappeared from a night out in Maidstone a month ago and has attracted over 1,700 supporters.

The 28-year-old's body was found at Cuxton Marina, about 10 miles down stream, on Saturday after close to a month of searching.

Kent Police confirmed the body's identity on Wednesday.

Cathleen Breen, from Orpington, has set up the petition of her own accord.

In its summary she says: "The River Medway is an extremely deadly place.

"An appropriate fence or a wall needs to be erected around The River Medway to prevent more tragic and unnecessary deaths."

Although Mr Lamb disappeared in Maidstone, the petition is lobbying Medway Council, which has seen several people die in the river since 2006.

In 2013 Josh Thomas, 18, died after falling in on a drunken night out.

Four years earlier another 18-year-old, called Sonny Pataria, also lost his life in the river.

He had been at a wedding reception at Chatham's Historic Dockyard and is thought to have fallen in the water while walking along the river's edge in Chatham.

He was found in the river at Gun Wharf in February 2009 and an inquest recorded a verdict of accidental death.

In 2006 19-year-old Terry Reynonds disappeared on New Year's Day. His body was found in the River Medway at Halling 22 days later.
