Crash closes College Avenue and Knightrider Street in Maidstone

Several key routes in Maidstone have been closed off tonight after a man in his 20s was hit by a car.

The accident happened just before 8.30pm at the junction of Knightrider Street and College Road, near All Saints Church.

Kent Police are at the scene as are other emergency services. The man, who was on foot, has been taken to a London hospital with injuries described as serious.

Road closures put in place this evening include Knightrider Street and College Road. Police have also stopped motorists at Hayle Road and directed traffic along College Road, towards Tovil.

But cars heading into Maidstone from Tovil are being stopped at the junction of Tovil Road and College Avenue.

The Road's Policing Unit has tweeted to say its officers are assisting Kent Police at the scene.

Around 10.30pm the force tweeted to say Knightrider street is open, but other road closures still remain.

A Kent Police spokesman added: "Enquiries are on-going at the scene and a road closure is in place."
