Police in land sell-off
10:47, 28 October 2011
Kent Police has unveiled plans to sell off part of its headquarters to make way for housing.
The proposal on the table is to build 203 homes on part of its site in Sutton Road, Maidstone.
Kent Police Authority hopes to build 112 properties behind the operations room and 91 on the college centre, which has its own entrance off Coverdale Avenue.
If given the go-ahead, football pitches on the training site, used by a number of local teams, will be moved to another part of the grounds.
Louise Barker, of Stratford Drive, said: “It’s a big piece of land so I’m not surprised it has been identified for housing.
"I’m interested to hear how the planners are going to deal with the extra traffic as the traffic lights at Morrisons are bad enough as it is.”
There is no estimate yet for the land's value.
A spokesman for Kent Police said the proposals are still at a very early stage and no planning application or sale has yet been made.
