12:20, 27 May 2016

A police pooch helped officers investigating a burglary locate three suspects within an hour of the report being made.

Monty was deployed after officers were called to reports that three men had attempted to get into a private property in Leeds at around 6.20pm last Wednesday.

It is reported that the men were disturbed by a neighbour while the burglary was in progress in Lower Street.

The neighbour was assaulted and the suspects fled the scene.

The German shepherd tracked and searched through fields for 40 minutes before finding a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old in nearby Burberry Lane. Both were arrested on suspicion of burglary.

The two suspects, who are from Maidstone and Coxheath respectively, have been bailed until Thursday, July 14 to allow officers to investigate.

Monty then picked up the scent of a third man who was stopped by officers in Brownfield Road.

The 18-year-old from Coxheath has also been bailed, pending further inquiries, until Thursday, July 14.
