A property mogul accused of racially abusing a woman found his case could not go ahead today because prosecutors could not get video footage to play.

Fergus Wilson, 70, appeared at Medway Magistrates Court accused of racially abusing Zuzanna Austin in Maidstone.

Wilson, of Heath Road, Boughton Monchelsea, was charged with two offences, the first racially aggravated harassment and the second, using threatening or abusive or insulting behaviour towards Ms Austin during an incident in April 2018.

However, the case could not go ahead when he appeared before District Judge Paul Goldspring because not only could prosecutors not play the video footage evidence.

Mr Wilson and his legal team had not even been served with the video evidence.

Wilson, a millionaire who owns a portfolio of homes in Maidstone and Ashford, has previously denied both allegations and entered not guilty pleas to both charges in November last year.

He was due to stand trial over the matter this morning, but because of the technical difficulties playing the footage in court and the fact the evidence had not not been served to his legal team, Judge Goldspring decided to vacate the trial for another date.

However, he ordered the footage be served to Mr Wilson's solicitor, Jagmohan Takk within 14-days and set a new trial date for Thursday, August 22 at 10am at the same court.

Wilson was granted bail until then.
