Protest by 'Cinderella' lecturers
19:03, 29 May 2008
College lecturers will be protesting on Wednesday in a row over pay – and will invoice their bosses for unpaid overtime.
Staff at Mid Kent College, Maidstone’s Oakwood Park campus, and West Kent College, Tonbridge, members of the University and College Union, are fighting for a six per cent pay rise to bring their earnings up to the level of school teachers.
West Kent College UCU representative Ray Powell said: “We are taking this action to show how college lecturers are the Cinderellas of education when it comes to pay."
The union rejected a 2.5 per cent pay offer earlier this month.
While Kent members are not staging a full walk-out yet, colleges are warned to expect “widespread action” in the autumn.
