09:39, 04 January 2015

Police officers investigating a serious collision in Maidstone on Christmas Day are making renewed appeals for witnesses to come forward.

Officers were called to Sutton Road, at 10.05pm on Thursday, December 25, after a silver Vauxhall Astra and a silver Peugeot 208 travelling in opposite directions collided close to the junction with Grove Road.

The three occupants of the Peugeot, Christopher Walker, 54, and his wife Deborah, 45, from Headcorn, and her mother, Patricia Leach, 67, from Biddenden, were all taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Astra was reported to have left the scene prior to police arrival.

A 21-year-old man from Orpington was later arrested at 3pm on Boxing Day on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He has been bailed until 5 February.

But officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen the vehicles in the moments leading up to the collision.

Anyone with information who is yet to speak to police is urged to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538 or email sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk.
