Reports of a person falling in the River Medway at Maidstone has sparked a huge emergency response

There was a huge emergency response at a river after fears a person had fallen into the water.
Police and the fire service were called to the River Medway in Maidstone town centre shortly before 1pm.
Clothing was discovered at the scene but nobody was found.
A police spokesman said: “We were called at 12.50pm today to a report someone may have fallen into the River Medway, near Bishops Way, Maidstone.
“Officers attended along with Kent Fire and Rescue Service and an item of clothing was recovered from the scene.
“It is believed concerns a person may have entered the water may have been a false alarm.”
