Motorists were left confused after a dramatic car chase broke out on the M20 today.
It wasn't a criminal getaway, though - just officers carrying out a training exercise which saw them attempt to stop a green estate car.
Drivers reported a stinger being laid across the width of the carriageway, between junctions 8 (Leeds) and 9 (Ashford).
A police spokesman said: "Ensuring that our officers are well trained and have the skills necessary to ensure pursuits are carried out safely is essential; not only to protect the public but also to ensure suspects and officers are not seriously injured.
"Extensive training takes place before officers carry out exercises on live motorways and all session in public places are carefully managed.
"Thorough risk assessments are carried out and public safety remains our highest priority during these exercises."
The force added there are very strict guidelines which officers must follow when engaged in a tactical pursuit.
