Firefighters were called after a Land Rover caught fire on the A249 near the Detling Showground

Fire crews were called after a Land Rover caught fire on the A249 near the Detling Showground this afternoon.
The incident happened just after 4pm and emergency crews closed to road.
The vehicle which was heading towards the Isle of Sheppey was towing a trailer at the time and a horse had to be led to safety.

Two fire engines attended the scene and fire crews used breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.
The vehicle was destroyed in the fire.
A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "KFRS was called to a fire involving a Land Rover on the A249 near the Detling Showground.

"The vehicle was heading in the direction of the Isle of Sheppey and was towing a six foot trailer, which was not involved in the blaze.
"Two fire engines attended and fire crews wearing breathing apparatus used compressed air foam to extinguish the blaze, which destroyed the vehicle.
"A horse had been led to safety prior to the arrival of firefighters.
"Kent Police and the Highways Agency were also in attendance and the A249 southbound was closed during firefighting operations."
