Concerns about the safety of a pedestrian crossing in West Malling have been raised after an 85-year-old woman was killed in an accident while using it.
The woman, Joan Hamilton, of West Street, died the day after the incident, which happened on Friday, December 27.
She was taken to King’s College Hospital in London with a serious head injury.
Police confirmed that Mrs Hamilton was crossing the road when she was hit by the car, a grey Seat Leon, which stopped at the scene.
West Malling Parish Council had raised concerns that it was not well lit at its meeting on Monday.
And resident June Briggs, of King Street, said she knew a number of elderly people who felt cautious about using it as it was at a very busy junction.
She said: “The older you are the less quick you can move. You have to get across and there is quite a lot of traffic and it is quite fast.”
Prayers were also said by members of the Mother Teresa Group at the St Thomas More Church in Lucks Hill last week for Mrs Hamilton, who was a member.
An inquest is yet to be opened. A police investigation is ongoing. Anyone who can help should call 01622 798538.
