A stalker who sent her favourite DJ sexually explicit emails and kissed him while he was performing at a gig in Maidstone wept from the dock as she avoided jail.

Sharon Rennie, 49, of Park Avenue, Dundee, pleaded guilty to a course of conduct that amounted to stalking when she appeared at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court.

The court was told she was a "super fan" of record producer John Digweed – once voted World No 1 DJ – and sent him a large number of emails between June and October.

These varied from expressions of admiration and love, which were sometimes sexually explicit, to emails which were offensive and abusive – none of which Mr Digweed ever replied to, the court was told.

The defendant admitted sending some emails, but denied ever being abusive.

Ms Rennie, who was “obsessed” with Mr Digweed, tried to get his phone number by calling his agent and pretending to be an old friend. The agent refused.

Mr Digweed was performing at The Social Festival at Kent Showground on Saturday, September 30, when Ms Rennie ran up to him and kissed him, saying: “It’s great to see you. Are you coming home with me?”

He replied: “No, I’m not. Who the hell are you?” She was removed by security.

Three days later, she appeared at his home in Sevenoaks, checking with a neighbour it was the correct address by claiming she was due to have an interview with him.

She buzzed the intercom saying she wanted to talk to him. An acquaintance of Mr Digweed’s asked her to leave, which she did, and phoned the police.

Ms Rennie was sentenced to 120 days in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered to pay the DJ £100 in compensation.

She was also given a restraining order, banning her from contacting Mr Digweed or his wife, or visiting Sevenoaks, for five years.

Holding back tears, she said: “I can’t stress enough how sorry I am.

“I will never, ever approach or do anything to cause any bother. I just want to go home.”
