Mum Betty Dunn cries after schoolboy John Boy Dunn's grave smashed in Marden Cemetery

00:01, 05 April 2014

A mother whose teenage son was killed in a road crash said she was grieving again after vandals smashed up his grave for a second time.

John Boy Dunn’s was the only burial site targeted during the incident in Marden Cemetery, when vandals also stole ornaments.

His headstone was smashed and two brass horse figures were taken.

Pots with flowers in them were also strewn about.

John Boy was just 13 when he died in a road traffic accident 23 years ago.

Now his mother, Betty Dunn, who lives at the Stilebridge caravan site in the village, said her grief had been made worse by the devastating attack.

She said: “We’re waiting for the stonemason to tell us how much it will be to repair the headstone.

“I can’t believe anyone would do this.

“No other graves were touched. I cried all day...after this had happened, and lost my voice through crying.”

The site was also desecrated in 2006, when figurines were smashed and flowers stolen.

And in 2000 abusive letters were left on the grave and others in the cemetery.

At the time Mrs Dunn said: “I don’t think it’s kids doing this and just hope the police can stop it.”

However, nobody has even been caught or punished for any of the incidents.

Police are now investigating the latest attack, which is believed to have happened between 9.30am and 2.30pm.

If you have any information, call the police on 101, quoting crime reference number YY/6433/14.
