A Technical Rescue Unit and a height vehicle also attended and it's understood nobody was injured.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

Loose Road was initially closed in both directions, causing huge tailbacks between the Wheatsheaf Junction and Loose Hill, but the road has since been fully re-opened.

The home owner did not want to comment on the blaze. Kent Fire and Rescue Service say cause is unknown.

SPG Builders went to the scene to help cover the damage with a tarpaulin following the fire.

A neighbour said there was little to be seen in the way of flames, but there was a lot of thick back smoke.

From the exterior it appears that all the damage was contained to one side of the roof area, with the rest of the house intact.

A pile of dislodged roof tiles lays in the front yard.

Fire fighters remained at the scene until approximately 3pm, clearing smoke and ensuring there was no resurgence of the flames.

Members of our Volunteer Response Team were also in attendance.

Clarification: We would like to clarify that SPG Builders went to the scene following the fire to help cover the damaged roof. Their contractors were not working on the roof when the blaze broke out.
