Sixth formers at Maidstone Grammar School for Girls have found the time to also take on undergraduate modules offered by the Open University.
In total 19 students from the Buckland Road school took on the extra study over the course of the year, with subjects ranging from medicine to forensic science.
All of the girls completed their courses and received certificates from Molly Tipples, chair of the school’s governing body, on Tuesday, July 8.
Head teacher Maureen Wolloshin said: “I have been enormously impressed by the intelligent and scholarly approach our students have to their studies. I am very proud pleased for them.”
Rosie Owen, assistant director of sixth form, added she is delighted with the students’ achievements.
Amongst the star performers was Miriam Aziz, who studied a module on human genetics and health issues.
She said: “I was very interested to find out about the human body and enjoyed researching into how humans inherit traits via genes.
“This course was a taster of what an actual university course will be like and I feel as if I have proved to my chosen Universities and future employers that I am capable of working independently and with great interest.”
Sarah Martin, who studied galaxies, stars and planers, added: “I thoroughly enjoyed studying it.
"It allowed me to gain a greater insight into the universe and the physics behind it.
"The presentation was lovely and made me feel I have really achieved something special.”
