Smashed window ordeal for woman during robbery bid
15:48, 22 March 2006
A YOUNG woman had her car window smashed with a crowbar while she was sat inside during an attempt to steal her handbag.
The 19-year-old victim was in her car, which was parked at the side of Wheeler Street, Maidstone, when she was approached by a man and a woman.
While the woman asked her if she had any change the man walked around the car and tried the door handles.
All the doors were locked so the man produced a crowbar from his jacket and smashed the driver's window.
The victim managed to start her car and drive away. She was not injured during the incident, which took place at around 7.30pm on Sunday.
The offenders are described as a scruffy-looking man wearing a dark-coloured hooded top and a woman with untidy hair wearing a dark jacket.
Police are appealing for information and anyone who can help is asked to call Maidstone Police on 01622 604157. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, free and confidentially, on 0800 555111.
