Fast food giant Subway has closed both of its stores in a town centre, claiming it wants to relocate to a new site.
The popular sandwich outlet has shut its branches in Week Street and Gabriel's Hill in Maidstone, just six months after announcing expansion plans across the region.
Bosses revealed back in April they planned to open a further 15 franchises across Kent and Surrey by the end of the year, creating more than 350 jobs in the process.
Hungry customers were left confused after spotting signs on the doors of both shops, claiming they were "closed until further notice".
A spokesperson said: "We can confirm that the Subway stores in Week Street and Gabriel's Hill, Maidstone have both closed due to the franchisee leaving the business to pursue another opportunity elsewhere.
"We are always looking to make our stores as convenient as possible for our customers and are currently considering relocation options for a store to open in Maidstone when a suitable site is found."
