Maidstone Subway loses bid to stay open until 5am

Subway has been thwarted in its bid to extend its opening hours.
Maidstone Borough Council turned down an application for the fast food outlet in Gabriel’s Hill to remain open until 5am on Friday and Saturday nights.
The decision was made at a meeting of the licensing committee.
Kent Police had objected to the proposal on crime and disorder grounds.
In reaching their decision, councillors argued that allowing Subway to remain open until that time during the weekends would not help prevent crime.
Subway had pointed out nearby Attila Kebab House was allowed to stay open until 5am on both nights.
However, the council said it could only consider the application it had in front of them.
